Busey named Professorial Lecturer at American University

OKLAHOMA CITY - Oklahoma City Attorney Phil G. Busey, founder and CEO of the Busey
Group of Companies has accepted an adjunct faculty position at American University
in Washington D.C.
Busey, a member of the Cherokee Nation, has been named Professorial Lecturer and
will teach “Economic Development in Tribal Communities” with Professor Violeta T.
Ettle.
The course, which will be offered for the first time this summer, will look at concepts
and principles of business and economic development in tribal communities as well
as provide a framework for successful interactions with other economic and government
entities.
Because he will be team-teaching the course at AU, Busey will be able to continue
his operations at The Busey Group.
"I am honored to be chosen by AU as an adjunct professor for this first of it's
kind course offering," Busey said. "AU is a premier institution with a strong and
continuing commitment to minority and Native American student opportunities.
"Beyond Indian gaming, the future for tribal sovereignty is in long term economic
development and education," he said.
The 1977 graduate of the Oklahoma City University School of Law and former adjunct
faculty member there has been highly sought after nationally for his experience
and services in Native American law and federal regulation as well as government
contracting, strategic alliances, and corporate and commercial law. Busey has also
received numerous awards and recognitions for his commitment and contributions to
the American Indian people.
Busey has been a guest speaker during the past several years at American University's
Washington Internship for Native Students (WINS).
WINS, part of the AU Washington Semester Program, provides an opportunity for Native
American and Alaskan Native students to gain professional work experience through
an academically supervised internship within a federal agency or private firm and
to earn academic credits. While enrolled in the WINS Program the students also take
academic courses at the university focusing on Native American public policy concerns.
They also have supervised field trips, meetings with Congressional and other government
leaders and policy makers and enjoy social and cultural activities.
