OKLAHOMA CITY - Locally based Delaware Resource Group, which normally is involved in military aerospace, is stepping out of the norm and has been awarded a three-year energy contract with Marathon Oil for coal-bed methane support services in Wyoming.
Phil G. Busey, chairman and chief executive officer of the Busey Group, which is the parent company of Delaware, said work will be based out of Gillette, Wyo., and will be done mostly in the Powder River Basin. It will add 70 workers to the payroll, which currently includes 140 employees.
"This is a big step into the commercial marketplace and energy for our companies," Busey said. "We have developed an excellent record of quality and performance with our defense and aerospace partners and have now reached successfully into the commercial marketplace with the economic solutions and contract support developed over the past five years."
The contract will begin next month.
"Diversity of our contracting base is essential to our continued growth," Busey said. "We are excited about our opportunities with Marathon and the effort of our management and employees with the growth of the companies. Marathon is an excellent company with a proven commitment to small business."
The additional contract work has necessitated a move for the Busey Group. It purchased a new building at 5721 NW 132nd St. in the Turtle Creek complex in northwest Oklahoma City. It adds 5,000 square feet of office space and is close to Busey's former office.
"The purchase of this new building is an important step for us," Busey said. "It allows us the space to expand operations and bring in more people. It’s important for this company to stay in Oklahoma City."
