Delaware Resource Group of Oklahoma has been awarded a $40 million contract by the United States Air Force to provide E-3 Sentry AWACS Mission Crew Training to the 552nd Air Control Wing at Tinker Air Force Base.
The 552nd Air Control Wing provides combat-ready, theater battle management forces and operates and supports these forces worldwide ensuring combat capability for all peacetime and contingency operations.
The contract is Delaware Resource Group's first major prime contract with the U.S. Air Force and a milestone for its long-term working relationship with Boeing Aerospace, said Phil Busey, chairman and chief executive of Delaware Resource Group and the Busey Group of Companies. Delaware Resource Group had been performing as a subcontractor on the E-3 program for Boeing since 2002.
This year the Air Force, which opens bidding on the contract about every five years, decided to set aside the contract specifically for small businesses, Busey said.
"We are excited to be named the prime contractor on the E-3 Sentry AWACS contract, which keeps the contract with an Oklahoma-based company," he said. "We serve as a subcontractor on multiple defense contracts with Boeing Aerospace and this marks our first prime contract win. It enables us to continue to work with Boeing in a new role and continue to support our
nation's war fighter."
Boeing Aerospace will continue in a supporting role on the project providing services to Delaware Resource Group as a subcontractor, Busey said. "We are happy to be on the team and keep this very successful team together," said Ben Robinson, the Oklahoma City site director for Boeing. "Boeing is looking forward to being part of the DRG team," Robinson said.
